DIRECTIONS

Killiechronan is situated in the centre of the island at the head of Loch na Keal, 3 miles from Salen.

From Tobermory take the A848 to Salen, from Craignure and the south of the island take the A849 to Salen, then turn at the church in Salen and take the B8035 towards Gruline, after 2.5 miles take the first right onto the B8073 towards Ulva Ferry. Killiechronan is then on your right after half a mile.

If coming from the west, Calgary, Torloisk or Ulva ferry then take the B8073 towards Salen, this is a very slow twisty road but also very scenic, it is worth doing for the scenery but be aware that it will take you up to an hour to do the 18 miles from Calgary. It is a lot quicker to go via Dervaig and through the glen to Salen.

From the south you can also take the scenic route around gribun on the B8035, this again is a slow and twisty route but well worth it for the views and must be done at some point during your visit, but make sure you allow extra time. It should only take you an hour from Bunessan or Fionnphort but it’s best to allow an hour and a half.

When you reach Killiechronan drive on past the main entrance and along the road to the campsite. We are now located in the field opposite the campsite, look out for the sign at the field entrance, if the gate is open you can drive into the field and park just inside the gateway, if the gate is closed or this area is full then park in the layby to the left or right of the road, neither of which is a passing place. This is just temporary whilst we wait for planning permission to put in a proper parking area. You will see the stable and ponies across the field so can walk across to us from there. During wet weather it can get quite wet and muddy so it is advisable to wear suitable footwear even if you aren’t riding.

TO KILLIECHRONAN BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

Killiechronan isn't the easiest to reach by public transport but it is possible. There are 3 ferries to Mull, one from Oban to craignure, one from Lochaline to Fishnish and one from Ardnamurchan to Tobermory, you can catch a bus either from the ferry at Craignure or fishnish or from Tobermory. The nearest bus stop to us is Salen which is 3 miles from us, this is an hour walk from us or you can hire a bike from Salen, I am also happy to pick you up from Salen and drive you back after the trek so let me know if you'd like to arrange this.

There are a few taxi services on the island, most are based in Tobermory so add a surcharge if you want to travel from other parts of the island. If you are travelling from Tobermory though it's a good way of seeing a bit of the island as most provide a bit of a guided tour as well.

Alternatively there is a great service from the ulva ferry community transport which run a scheduled service as well as private bookings and have a 9 seater bus as well as an electric car carrying up to 4 passengers. They are available to book 7 days a week (subject to driver availability) you can phone, text, or email but you do have to book in advance.
